So much to choose from and everything we had was ono! Delicious food! I had begun to think that hawaiian cuisine was pretty meh, but it turns out we had just been picking meh restaurants. Vernas is big food and good food, we were soooooo fat and happy after we ate. Dont drive by, drive IN!

We have driven by this place so many times. We finally decided to try it out. We were not disappointed. I definitely would recommend the stew. The meat was so tender. We'll be stopping by again for sure.

I am in love with this place, 24/hrs and they honestly have the best burger I've ever had and I know that's crazy right? But I personally can't stop eating them. It's like having your crack and smoking it too...

Ono food. Priced decently. And they have ice cream floats.😋

Gravy cheese fries. I don't feel like these should work, but they worked!!! What I ordered was not exactly health food, but they have a pretty extensive menu. No indoor tables.

Went for a float but they were out of ice cream. Had a deluxe cheese burger and yummy fat crinkle fries.

Food is awesome but don’t go at night. The workers will sigh, make you feel unwanted, or maybe make up an excuse to not make your food. Very unfortunate bc I do love the food but am usually in Hilo working at night.

Was great for the price. I went there two nights in a row. I first tried there smoke meat which was very good! The chicken and shredded pork combo was also good. They put a gravy on it instead of the smoke Kalua pig taste. Night 2, I ate the loco Moco, cheese burger with gravy, and the garlic fried chicken which was great!! The garlic chicken and the smoked meat is a must!

Verna's is a classic style diner that makes American style cuisine with hawaiian kind flavor and plenty Aloha. Serving lots of local favorites, staple items such as burgers and fries. You can also mix it up and make the burger and fries local style. For example two of my favorites are the kimchi burger and gravy cheese fries. Makes for a great easy dinner or lunch. As they say if can, can, if no can, Vernas! On my last trip I ordered two double cheese burgers deluxe with gravy cheese fries, a large curly fry and a side order of fried rice. This was the bomb and really a bargain for the quantity and quality.

Couldn't get the pastele plate because I was on the go back to oahu. But best believe I got some cheeseburgers. GRAVY CHEESE. Lol TSA wanted to confiscate for himself. Mahalo.

I only had their gravy fries... But boy was I surprised! They were the best gravy fries I've ever had. I didn't expect a dinky small place to have food that good.

Comfort food and daily specials. What more can you ask for? Open Sundays. Definitely recommend any of their burgers and roast pork plate.

Long wait on this day. Very hungry. Definitely WASN'T a day for chop steak and onions. Was a day for mayo though....tuna sandwich had a lot of it as well as a hamburger. Would've had a pic but hungry family couldnt wait for a pic before slathering it away.

Home cooking its great food at reasonable prices

I decided to give Vernas a shot, Sunday. At some point, this old establishment possibly made good food, not these days. The first order made here, incorrect. I was the only person ordering food. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with bacon, ended up with " The Unloved sandwich". I would prefer to go hungry than eat here, again.

With a hungry appetite, my breakfast was a fulfillment of the local cuisine menu! Two beef patties, smothered in a rich, steaming brown gravy with two perfectly cooked eggs atop a heaping mound of rice. Delicious and sumptuous at the same meal, at a price worthy of your palette.

Awesome food love their food especially burgers and fries. Awesome place to eat in Hilo they upgrading I heard so better check out the food.

Utterly fantastic pulled pork not far from the airport. If you like holes in the wall and don't mind eating on plastic picnic tables outside with plastic forks, and all you want is that perfect Hawaiian plate lunch, pulled pork plates are worth every penny.

Verna's is so much better since the change in Management!!The Food is so much more Flavorful and visually enticing! Been a while since I have had their Homemade Hamburger Patties. We had some Gravy Cheeseburgers and their Gravy Cheese Fries. I was so much more appreciative of their Gravy Cheese Fries. The last time I was there I was so disappointed. This order was a large order with tasty gravy and perfectly melted cheese, soooo good!!I would definitely encourage those of you that had a bad experience in the past to give them another go! You won't be disappointed 😉

Their fries are the bomb. All of their local plates can't be beat. Just had the hamburger plate w/gravy & mac salad. Had it for lunch & the leftover for dinner. Onolicious.

Best 'fast food' always hot always fresh tasting and friendly staff

Out of what I wanted pastelle... ordered a gril ham an cheese with bacon. One side nicely toasted lightly golden other side burnt black, took about 25 mins to get my food with no one there will never go back.

Love the local vibe and great food from Vernas. It reminds me of Rainbows in Honolulu, but it has it's own style. A must stop, but be prepared for await behind all the locals. Plenty of parking and prices are great, cheap good food.

Great little drive inn. The food didn't knock my slippahs off so I had to give them 4 stars. However, compared to restaurants in the area they are really good and drastically cheaper. You can actually get food for less them $10 a person! My wife and I ate there every day for almost a week.Loco Moco is on pointHawaiian plate is spot onDon't forget to add lettuce and tomatoes to your Burgers.

I got the #2. Walked from ship to this place from the airport frontage road. People are nice and the 3 guys here are Hawaiian locals. 4 tables on outdoor covered patio.

This place has the best food! Quick and yummy! They also very good customer service from the younger girl.

This place is such a tiny building but will always have a special place in our hearts. As it is in the Heart of Hilo and they make local delights.

Past couple weeks seems to have gone down hill. Raised prices, food quality has dropped... I just paid $3.50 for watered down sugar added Sunny-D when I ordered orange juice...maybe orange Koolaid...but this was NOT orange juice. Won't be going back anytime soon.

Food was great and it was ready in no time. Great place to stop if you need a quick bite to eat.
